Joy Chavez Mapaye, PhD, MA
Dr. Joy Chavez Mapaye is a professor in the Department of Journalism and Public Communications at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Her education background includes communication, rhetoric, broadcast journalism, public relations, marketing communications and branding. Mapaye’s research agenda involves media, health disparities, health communication and public health. Mapaye was part of a research team conducting behavioral health surveys in the Municipality of Anchorage to assist with COVID-19 mitigation and response. She was also part of several COVID-19 integrated communications teams and projects. Mapaye earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University and graduated with her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon.
